About the show: Set in Toronto in the early 1990's, the original pilot for this quality vampire series starred Rick Springfield as the lead. But that original pilot wasn't picked up and most of its cast moved on to other projects. The show eventually found life (or afterlife) in late night TV and gained a loyal cult following that thrives to this day, despite the relatively short three seasons it was actually on the air. The show is about a repentant vampire, Nicholas Knight, who no longer wishes to kill humans to
survive, and instead seeks solace in serving the mortals as a police detective. His friends include
his sire, the ancient vampire Lucien LaCroix, Janette, another vampire who runs a local club called
The Raven, Natalie Lambert, a rare human with whom Nick works who knows his immortal secret, and
his partners, Detective Don Schanke (seasons 1 & 2) and Tracy Vetter (season 3) who do not know
their daylight-avoiding partner is a vampire. Many episodes feature historical flashbacks to the
vampire trio's earlier adventures (often set in Europe, but sometimes in America).
The WriterGroupie is very happy to have met both Geraint Wyn Davies and Nigel Bennett in person,
as well as having met some of the writers and directors for the show. She is also particularly
fond of the series' evocative soundtrack music.
