About the show:
This syndicated science fiction series aired from 1993
to 1999. It was created by Rick Berman & Michael Piller based on and set in Gene Roddenberry's
Star Trek universe. This is the only Star Trek series not set on a starship.
Instead it is centered around a backwater space station, Deep Space Nine, circling the recently
occupied planet of Bajor. Bajor is not a member of the Federation, but they asked the Federation
to step in and help protect them during the rebuilding of their world so recently ravaged by the
deadly Cardassians. Leading the station is the conflicted Benjamin Sisko, who, after the loss of
his wife in an attack by the Borg, brings his son, Jake, to the station to try to rebuild their
lives and find a new focus. But there are complications... Such as the Bajoran spiritual leaders,
in concert with the wormhole aliens ("Prophets") that watch over their planet have decided that
Sisko is the "Emissary" of the Prophets, only no one asked if Sisko wanted the job. Meanwhile he
must deal with the machinations of Ferengi businessman Quark who runs the local bar, the changeling
constable Odo whose sense of justice is only equalled by his desire to find out about his people,
the multi-lived Trill science officer Jadzia Dax who was once his old mentor Curzon and a decidedly
unfriendly Bajoran liaison officer and former freedom fighter named Kira Nerys who wants the
station and her planet back for her people alone.
