About the show:
Premiering in summer 2002, American Idol took the country by storm and produced some of FOX
television's highest ratings to date. Based on the British series Pop Idol, American
Idol conducts nationwide talent searches among people ages 16-28, searching for the next big
pop star.
Like its British counterpart, American Idol tried to build two stars in the season one
winner Kelly Clarkson and runner-up Justin Guarini who appeared in their own musical movie
From Justin To Kelly. And for season two, runner-up
Clay Aiken has outshined 'winner' Ruben Studdard
as Clay's CD sales have clearly outperformed
Ruben's.
Personal:
The WriterGroupie fell in love with this show from the first episode of the first season. She loves
watching people fulfill their dreams and this series is the perfect opportunity for that.
The WriterGroupie had the pleasure of seeing a taping of a season one episode (the one where the
finalists had to sing with a live band for the first time) and was thrilled to see her favorite,
Justin Guarini, up close and in person!
In season one, the WriterGroupie picked Justin out as her favorite from his first audition out of
the 10,000 who tried out. For season two the WriterGroupie rooted for Clay Aiken,
whose gorgeous voice is only matched by his sweet personality. And yes, she also picked him out
at his very first audition as a star in the making!
In season two, the WriterGroupie attended an industry-only event called
American Idol - Live! where she got to meet her Idol,
Clay Aiken!
