About the movie:
Even one small person can make a difference. That's the ultimate message of The Lord of the Rings
and it's powerfully conveyed in the three-part story of one hobbit (a small, humanlike creature) who is entrusted
with the destruction of a ring of power that the dark lord Sauron and his minions will try to retrieve
at all cost. The hobbit, Frodo, is accompanied by a band of companions, a fellowship made of men,
a dwarf, an elf, a wizard and other hobbits, who protect him on his journey. Along the way, Frodo's
own resolve and courage are tested as he faces the forces of darkness in the form of Ringwraiths, Orcs,
and his own self-doubt.
Personal:
The WriterGroupie suggests that people who haven't read the books try the regular theatrical version
of the films, but for those fans of the original story, only the extended Director's Cuts will suffice.
There's half an hour each more of the books in there and they're definitely the more 'definitive' versions.
Not to mention the hours of extraordinary behind the scenes footage and documentaries available in
the extended cuts. The WriterGroupie bought only the extended version of each of the three DVDs.
The WriterGroupie worked very hard to avoid all visual and production spoilers
prior to the release of the first movie. As it was based on some of her favorite books, she knew it would
have to be pretty damn glorious to live up to the story she'd seen in her head since first reading
the books at age 12. Sigh. It was. Glorious, that is. Pretty much a perfect evocation of the books,
from the casting, to the script adaptation, to the amazing Oscar-winning directing job by Peter Jackson. Simply wow.
