About the movie:
Even one small person can make a difference. That's the ultimate message of "The Lord of the Rings"
and it's powerfully conveyed in the story of one hobbit (a small, humanlike creature) who is entrusted
with the destruction of a ring of power that the dark lord Sauron and his minions will try to retrieve
at all cost. The hobbit, Frodo, is accompanied by a band of companions, a fellowship made of men,
a dwarf, an elf, a wizard and other hobbits, who protect him on his journey. Along the way, Frodo's
own resolve and courage are tested as he faces the forces of darkness in the form of Ringwraiths, Orcs,
and his own self-doubt.
The MovieGroupie suggests that people who haven't read the book try the regular theatrical version
of the film, but for those fans of the original story, only the extended Director's Cut will suffice.
There's half an hour more of the book in there and it's definitely the more 'definitive' version.
The MovieGroupie bought only the extended version of "Fellowship" (on DVD) and plans to do the same for "The Two Towers"
and "Return of the King".
Personal:
The WriterGroupie worked very hard to avoid all visual and production spoilers
prior to the release of this movie. As it was based on one of her favorie books, she knew it would
have to be pretty damn glorious to live up to the story she'd seen in her head since first reading
the book at age 12. Sigh. It was. Glorious, that is. Pretty much a perfect evocation of the book,
from the casting, to the script adaptation, to the amazing directing job by Peter Jackson. Simply wow.
