About the movie:
Rafael Infante (Chayanne) has come from his native Cuba to Texas to find the man his late mother
claimed was the father he has never known. He finds John Burnett (Kris Kristofferson) running a dance
studio employing the lovely Ruby Sinclair (Vanessa Williams), a struggling single mother trying
to regain her glory days as a professional dancer with her former dance partner and the father of her
son. Ruby knows how to measure the steps and Rafael understands the beat of the music, but what neither
of them counted on... was falling in love.
An appealing story is the backdrop for some excellent choreography that runs the gamut from the
pure joy of latin club dancing to the elegance and attitude of the professional dance world.
Personal:
The WriterGroupie always appreciates a great dance film and Dance With Me
is no exception. She especially loved any scenes that featured Harry Groener dancing.
Also, Chayanne was a revelation whose very good dance skills are actually outshone by his incredible
charisma. This was the performer's first English-language movie and unfortunately for fans who
only speak English, the majority of the rest of his credits seem to be various Spanish-language
albums and telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). Someone needs to give this guy his own series or
more movies -- he's incredibly compelling onscreen!
