About the movie:
1980's version of a classic screwball comedy features Bruce Willis as Walter Davis, un uptight businessman
who is set up on a blind date with the beautiful Nadia Gates (played by Kim Basinger). The only problem is her 'allergy'
to alcohol -- it makes her act completely crazy, causing absolute chaos in Willis' career-path and
life in general. After Nadia's antics cause Walter to lose his job, let his car be vandalized
and have him arrested for grappling with her psycho ex-boyfriend David (brilliantly and
hysterically played by John Larroquette), the only thing left for Walter to do -- is fall in love with her.
Not quite as funny as the classic screwball comedies of the 30's and 40's, but the simply marvelous
cast makes this movie definitely worth a look. Bruce Willis at the height of his Moonlighting
madness, Kim Basinger doing an endearingly wacky turn as the hapless Nadia, and John Larroquette
as the insane ex, absolutely stealing every scene he's in. Other familiar faces populating the
film include William Daniels as Larroquette's father, Phil Hartman as Walter's brother Ted, and
a brief appearance by Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine) as a very annoyed waiter are particular highlights.
Personal:
The WriterGroupie absolutely adored this film when it first came out and John Larroquette still
cracks her up.
