WriterGroupie's Best of 2007

Date: 12/25/07

Hi all!

Hope you've had a wonderful holiday season so far! Upon reflection of the highlights of the year, I have come up with the following list.

I hope you enjoyed at least some of these in 2007, if not, check out any that appeal in 2008!

WriterGroupie's Best of 2007

10. "Online" - this Jason Alexander-directed-and-starring music video of Brad Paisley's terrific song is hilarious, catchy and frighteningly familiar - I haven't laughed this much in ages! If you haven't seen it, check it out: HERE

9. "Enchanted" - it came late in the year, but this fairy tale musical from Disney brightened my holiday season! Great soundtrack and can't wait to buy the dvd!

8. "Pushing Daisies" - I went into this one a little biased as I love the show runner's work and he exceeded my expectations with his best creation to date. This charming show just makes you happy watching it!

7. "300" - my expected favorite movie of the year did not let me down. I was waiting for this one since I watched the director, writer and stars at a Comic-Con panel in 2006. A work of art, an emotionally compelling tale of a small group of people making a big difference, and a whole lotta eye candy - who can ask for anything more?

6. "Hairspray" - my unexpected favorite movie of the year. As a big fan of the original film, I went into the remake determined not to like it, but was won over the moment Nikki Blonsky began to sing. Best cast of the year! Fabulous soundtrack and dvd!

5. "Blood Ties" - this fantastic TV show was based on a series of novels by Tanya Huff (which I still need to read!) and it pleasantly surprised me that there was still some fresh blood in a vampire TV show after all. The lovechild of "Forever Knight" and "Witchblade" - "Blood Ties" was a welcome addition to my all time favorite shows. A shame it won't get a second season - but I'm still holding out hope for a dvd release for this season.

4. "Doctor Who", "Torchwood", and "The Sarah Jane Adventures" - the latest additions to the Whoniverse managed to increase instead of dilute the richness of this tapestry of sci-fi tales from the U.K. Looking forward to the next adventures of the Doctor, his companions, Captain Jack, his team-mates and paramours, and Sarah Jane and her kid crew!

3. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" - a worthy ending to this marvelous saga - I laughed, I cried (a lot), I was left very, very satisfied.

2. "Jesus Christ Superstar" - Ted Neeley's farewell tour hit town in the spring and 35 years after first taking on the role, he can still sing it loud and proud. New cast addition Corey Glover makes a worthy follow up to the late Carl Anderson in the role of Judas. Can't wait to see the show again with my fellow JCS-loving friend next year! Best of all was when we got to go backstage and talk to Teddy after the performance - hope to do that again too!

1. Clay Aiken in concert (yes, again!) - a front row center seat thanks to a dear friend made for the best concert experience ever! Clay even made fun of me singing along to every song! He also came by after the show and greeted all the fans who'd waited for him. Always proud of our boy!

But truly, the best of any year is family, friends, health and happiness - may you all share those in abundance in 2008!

Happy Holidays from the WriterGroupie!
