Drew Romance

2/13/05

As you can probably tell from my list of favorite movies I'm one of the last people to like 'girly' films, but even I have to make an exception every once in a while. So for this foolishly romantic holiday, I'd like to shine the spotlight on a trio of foolishly romantic movies starring Drew Barrymore, who despite having led a very difficult life has a knack for picking some extraordinarily bright and touching films to star in.

My favorite of the three is The Wedding Singer. Set in the 1980's and starring Adam Sandler in his most endearing performance as the aforementioned singer who is down on love, Drew must help Adam find the meaning in the songs he sings.

Never Been Kissed showcases Drew as an aspiring reporter who returns to high school undercover and gets a second chance at growing up and discovers true love and self respect in the process.

And Ever After is the charming retelling of the fairy tale story of Cinderella, as played by Drew. Here she is a peasant who must show a prince the true meaning of aristocracy.

All are utterly moving and completely rewatchable, although given the choice in Ever After I must admit that I'd pick Richard O'Brien over Dougray Scott... but that's just me.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
