Publication Date: 1963 About the book: A small story, set in a classroom of children. The country has just been conquered by an enemy the children know little about. Their old teacher is being taken away and a new teacher... one of them... is coming to teach them. In the course of the new teacher's questioning what the children think they know, the reader learns how vulnerable children are to propaganda and to psychological manipulation. This is a cautionary tale about not taking freedom for granted and the true meaning of patriotism.
As topical today as it was when it was first written 40 years ago.
