About the Author:
Calling Terry Pratchett the UK version of Piers Anthony or the fantasy-writer equivalent of Douglas
Adams, doesn't begin the express the brilliance or social relevance of the writing of this amazingly
funny and insightful author. The WriterGroupie would class him as a philosopher-sociologist, rather
than a fantasy writer, but even a casual reader would find him incredibly funny.
Though he's written several series of books, Pratchett is best known for his
Discworld series and his collaborative effort with Neil Gaiman, "Good Omens".
Personal:
As often seems to be the case, the WriterGroupie only discovered Terry Pratchett's Discworld
books after she'd spent years reading Piers Anthony's Xanth books and Douglas Adams'
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
These are the only books guaranteed to catch the WriterGroupie offguard in the most public
of reading places and send her into peals of laughter.
While visiting the U.K., the WriterGroupie met two people who said they were the sources for
characters Nanny Ogg and her cat. And if the WriterGroupie has learned one thing from the
Discworld books, it's not to argue with Gytha Ogg.
