About the Author:
Beginning his career in the 1970's as predominantly a science fiction writer, Dean R. Koontz found
his voice in horror fiction in the 1980's and has continued to rise in popularity through his
combination of supernatural elements and strong, sympathetic characters. His works are consistently
found at the top of best seller lists and deservedly so.
A prolific author, Koontz confounded his publishers early on with his interest in writing in
multiple genres. The publishers 'solved' the quandary by insisting that he write different books
under different pseudonyms. Fans and collectors have responded to the challenge by re-discovering
these works and calling for reprints which resulted in many of his early books written under pen
names being reissued in recent years under his own real name.
Several of his books have been made into movies and minseries including "Demon Seed", "Watchers",
"Whispers", "Intensity" and "Sole Survivor".
Personal:
The WriterGroupie has had the extreme pleasure of attending more than one booksigning by Koontz,
who is without question one of her all time favorite authors. She owns several shelves-ful of
his books and has collected them faithfully since the 1980's.
As is the case with another of the WriterGroupie's favorite authors, John
Saul, the WriterGroupie finds it highly amusing that despite Koontz's ability to write incredibly
dark, scary stories, in person, he is one of the nicest, most gentle, charming men you could meet.
Some of the WriterGroupie's favorite books by Koontz include: "Night Chills", "Twilight Eyes",
"Strangers", "Watchers", and "Lightning".
