About the Author:
Simply incredible author of more than two dozen books of urban fantasy -- books where fantastic
things occur to ordinary people. A Canadian writer, most of De Lint's books are set in a town
called Newford, which somewhat resembles Ottawa, but could equally be any northern American town.
He often draws from both Native American and Celtic mythologies.
While many of his books involve the same locale and the same characters, and the WriterGroupie
generally suggests starting with his earlier books and reading them in chronological/release order,
you really can start with any book of his that interests you and not be lost with too many
references to previous adventures. He strikes an incredible balance with each book being a completely
self-contained adventure, yet long time fans will recognize many of the places and peripheral
recurring characters. Another great way to start is with one of his many books of short stories
such as "Moonlight and Vines".
A few of his books may be harder to find as they were originally printed in limited editions or
written under a pseudonym such as "Samuel M. Key". But the WriterGroupie has found that sooner or
later, most of his books get reprinted for the general public, so patience is a virtue.
Personal:
The WriterGroupie has been a devoted fan of Charles De Lint's since she first picked up his book
"Yarrow" in the mid to late 1980's. From there she went on to "Moonheart" and has picked up every
one of his books (in hardcover) ever since! She has a passion for stories of the unusual set in
the world of the usual and his books suit her perfectly.
She loves being able to revisit and explore the streets of Newford
and the ever expanding cast of regular characters who populate the town. She is very partial to
the character of Jilly Coppercorn.
